City of Chicago to Tax Cloud Streaming Services Starting Sept. 1
Chicago will begin mandatory collection of a nine percent tax on streaming and cloud services on September 1 after a ruling by the Department of Finance. The City of Chicago has ruled that two different existing tax rules – one for consumer services, one for businesses — apply to online services paid for by people and companies in Chicago.
