Burundi Government Orders ISPs to Block Access to Social and Messaging Apps
The Burundi government has shut down Internet access for most of the country’s citizens by ordering telecoms and ISPs to block practically all social networking apps, including Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, and Viber. The African nation has been gripped by political violence and unrest since President Pierre Nkurunziza announced he would run for a third term in June elections, which may violate the constitution and the fragile peace accord which ended the 12 year civil war in 2005.
